Textual Research Conclusion

I have made a video in which discusses my findings from my textual analysis and how this has impacted my choices in terms of making my products. I have discussed possible costumes, along with the amount of characters I am going to use, and also what exactly I have taken into consideration from my textual analysis.

In conclusion, from my textual analysis I had discovered the forms and conventions in which I will use in my products such as slow edited shots to show the feeling and emotion within the film and most trailers in which I have looked at use this as a convention. However, I have found that the characters in Rom Coms wear casual clothing so it is focused more on what is happening rather than there personality and this could connote that it is about the personality of the characters not what is seen. From this I am making my characters casually dressed with the female character being smart-casual rather than just casual like the male. I have developed my ideas from this by using the characters being both of the similar social class replicated through the costume, but I am going to have the social class as a complication as the female being a bit higher up. From my textual analysis I am going to replicate the genre through the use of colours as the textual analysis shows this could be aimed at mainly females, but may appeal to men if I change these so they are challenging the stereotypical ideology on conventions.

Textual Research

I have researched a few different texts for each products so that I can get a wider knowledge of how I can develop my products in order to make them more realistic. I have further looked into the mechanics of trailers in terms of the shot types, how many shots there is, the length of the trailer and also looked at the use of sound, dialogue, inter-titles and how many logos are used. Furthermore, I have also looked at magazines and posters in terms of the costume, props, locations, characters and also the poses in which are used and what effect I think this may have on the potential audience. I had also looked into basic forms and conventions of magazines including positioning of characters, features of the magazine and other information in which may have an impact on the issues of representation and connotations in the texts.

24/8/11 Update Video

I have created a video update in which shows why I have chosen the genre 'romantic comedy' and what has inspired me in particular about this genre and therefore explains the texts in which I am going to research for my textual analysis. I am going to research texts such as 'it's a boy girl thing', 'a cinderella story', 'friends with benefits' as well as my main inspirations 'coyote ugly', 'twilight' and 'another cinderella story' so that I can make my products as realistic as possible. I decided to research twilight as it is mainly shown on magazines whereas romantic comedies aren't, but twilight seems to represent romance more than action. However, from this I have chosen this genre, and these texts because it allows me more freedom.

However, as an update my inspiration has changed so I am basing my plot around 'Raise your voice', 'coyote ugly' and 'a walk to remember' so instead I am planning to look more closely into these rather than into 'another cinderella story' but will later discuss some features in which I will use from the film 'another cinderella story'.

Discussing Genre

I had created a video in which explains why I had chosen the genre 'romantic comedy'. The video concludes that I have chosen the gene 'Romantic Comedy' because I feel that it would be less restricted and be able to recreate this realistically and appeals more to me than the other genres I have research. I also feel it would be easier for my actors because they would or will experience this so it will be easier to recreate, and I will use my friends as actors and singers. I will also represent the genre through use of costume which I have discussed in the video and why I have used this in order to replicate the genre professionally. I have taken my main inspiration from mainly three films; 'another cinderella story', 'raise your voice' and 'coyote ugly' and adapted these to make a more drama-romance packed film product package.

Forms and Conventions of different genres (Holiday Homework)

I have created a powerpoint on the forms and conventions on multiple genres in order to decide which would be most suited to me in terms of how I can make this realistic through the use of locations, props, costumes and many other conventions. I have researched the main genres in which are shown in the mainstream and these include the following; Action, Comedy, Romantic Comedy and Thrillers/Horrors. I have also gave a slight conclusion in which I am going to adapt to in terms of my trailer, and will make a video update on which genre I have chosen after comparing them on realism, and why I have chosen this genre.

Film Marketing (Holiday Homework)

Over the holiday I had closely researched into the marketing of the film 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II' and this is because I feel it would have been one of the most marketed films in which was recently released. I had researched closely into how marketing products work together in order to promote the films more successfully and also how they use continuity and the reasons behind the techniques of the ways in which they market. I had created both a prezi and a powerpoint on the different features of marketing and how successful the film had been in terms of promotion and generally.
